opengateLISA WISDOM creates unique metal landscapes from a palette of rust and copper found on her forays into the remoter parts of Cornwall. Her distinctive scenes of wild moorland stretching down to the copper blue sea, evokes memories of coastal walks. Often incorporating stiles and gates, she takes the viewer on a journey, under scudding clouds and through squally showers. Though she occasionally recreates her sketches of real places as a metal picture. Most often the scene appears to her in the metal as she finds it, often starting as a patch of sky with a horizon line distinctly 'in' the found corrugated roofing sheet. She also designs and makes useable ironwar such as fire dogs and fire irons and candle sconces etc.

Lisa trained at Birmingham School of Jewellery, then the National School of Blacksmithing in Hereford. She extended her knowledge of metals still further at a stint in a silver mine in the French Alps, and later went on to become a travelling Blacksmith in the Uk, France, North America and Canada before heading home to Cornwall. Working in the 200-year-old forge of a disused quarry near Mabe, she creates a wide range of interior ironwork, Jewellery and Metal Pictures of both landscapes and still lifes.
